White Oak
White Oak is a premium domestic hardwood prized for its durability, tight grain structure, and natural resistance to moisture, making it a longstanding choice for flooring, furniture, and fine millwork.
The heartwood of white oak ranges from light to medium brown, occasionally with an olive or grayish cast, while the sapwood is nearly white to pale tan, with only moderate contrast between the two. White oak has a straight, coarse grain similar to red oak but with tighter pores, giving it superior strength and moisture resistance. Prominent ray fleck patterns appear on quartersawn surfaces, and small mineral streaks or sound knots occur naturally as characteristics of the species.

The Matson Difference
White Oak demands precision, and that's where generations of Matson kiln drying experience make the difference. We source within a small regional radius, inspect every load, then run through our Oak dip process to maintain brightness and guard against staining. Following kiln drying, the lumber is once again inspected Because White Oak's dense, tight-pore structure is more prone to checking and slower to dry evenly than other oaks, we follow controlled, species-specific schedules that protect both structural integrity and appearance. The result is a bright, consistent White Oak product with the yield and reliability our customers have come to expect.
