Red Oak
Red Oak is the most widely used domestic hardwood in North America, valued for its strength, ready availability, and consistent performance across flooring, furniture, and millwork applications.
The heartwood of red oak ranges from light to medium reddish brown with a distinct pinkish cast, while the sapwood is nearly white to light tan, showing only moderate contrast with the heartwood. Red oak has a coarse, open grain that is generally straight, with prominent ray fleck patterns visible on quartersawn surfaces. Mineral streaks and small sound knots occur naturally and are considered normal characteristics of the species.
