Cherry
Cherry is a premium hardwood native to the Appalachian hardwood forests and one of the most sought-after domestic species for its warm color tones and superb finishing qualities.
The heartwood of cherry ranges from light pinkish brown to deep reddish brown, darkening noticeably with age and exposure to light. The sapwood is creamy white, creating a marked contrast with the heartwood that can be reduced through steaming. Cherry has a fine, uniform, straight grain with a smooth satin texture. Small gum pockets, pin knots, and brown pith flecks are natural characteristics of cherry, with their frequency varying by region and tree.

The Matson Difference
Matson Cherry begins in our own backyard — the renowned Pennsylvania Cherry Belt, recognized as some of the finest cherry-growing timber in the world. We source within a small regional radius and inspect every load before and after kiln drying to protect the wood's signature color and fine grain. Controlled, species-specific drying schedules manage moisture evenly through the board, minimizing blotching and preserving the rich heartwood tone customers expect from Matson Cherry. The result is a consistent, high-yield product shaped by generations of species-specific expertise.
