Beech
Beech is a dense, close-grained hardwood found throughout the Appalachian region, valued for its hardness, consistency, and versatility across furniture, millwork, and flooring applications.
The heartwood of beech is light reddish brown to a pale, almost white tone, with sapwood that shows little contrast from the heartwood, giving the wood a naturally uniform appearance. Beech has a straight grain with a fine, even texture. Small pin knots may occur, and quartersawn surfaces reveal a distinctive fleck pattern from the wood's medullary rays, a natural characteristic prized in select applications.

The Matson Difference
Beech has a light, uniform color, that takes careful handling to protect, which is why Matson treats it as a White Wood species from the moment it arrives at our mill. Strict, time-sensitive processing schedules and inspection before and after kiln drying keep staining to a minimum, while our species-specific processes help preserve Beech's naturally pale tone and fine, even texture. The result is a consistent, high-yield Beech product that keeps the clean appearance customers expect, whether it's destined for furniture, millwork, or flooring.
